Brain Food #7: Spinach
Several studies spanning several countries have shown that spinach can be a helpful cancer fighting agent. Many studies have concluded that glyconutrients, flavonoids, carotenoid neoxanth, beta carotene and vitamin A may all have the ability to fight cancer. Researchers studied spinach as a combatant against general solid tumor cells, ovarian cancer, prostate cancer and breast cancer risk. Definitely worth a try in your diet plan against brain cancer!
Spinach & Antioxidants
Free radicals are certain atom that can potentially do damage to DNA cells, a key concern particularly with cancer. Antioxidants are known to help combat free radicals and good news spinach contains many antioxidants that can help your body combat free radicals.
The Many Benefits of Nutrient Rich Spinach
Spinach’s green leaf is packed with nutrients like folate, vitamin E, and vitamin K that help to prevent dementia. It is one of the best sources of Vitamin K, which functions in retaining calcium in the bone matrix where it promotes bone mineralization. Minerals such as manganese, copper, magnesium, zinc, and phosphorus are also found in spinach. This combination makes spinach a great fighter of osteoporosis.
It’s an excellent source of Vitamin B1, B2, and B6, and a good source of B3. Spinach is also rich in mood relaxing tryptophan, and cancer fighting fiber. One cup of boiled spinach contains over 5 grams of protein, and a decent amount of omega 3 fatty acids. And of course a lot of Vitamin A.
